What can you realistically do in Paris in 4 days?
The icons, done well, plus one day of the Paris people fall in love with, IF you cluster by neighborhood and book everything ahead. Louvre, Eiffel, Orsay, Notre-Dame's island, Montmartre, two or three great dinners: four days holds it all. It does not hold improvisation.
The realistic shape
Day 1: Louvre first slot, Tuileries, Palais-Royal, Right Bank dinner. Day 2: Orsay morning, Saint-Germain and the Luxembourg, Left Bank evening. Day 3: Montmartre early (before the crowds summit), afternoon in the Marais, Seine at dusk. Day 4: the islands and Sainte-Chapelle, then your splurge: Eiffel at golden hour or a long lunch worth flying for. One anchor per day. Wander between anchors.
What to cut without regret
Versailles, on a 4-day first trip it consumes a full day and returns you exhausted; save it for trip two. Second-tier museums "because they are nearby". Day trips, all of them. The top of things: one summit or rooftop is memory-making, three are queues.
What breaks the plan
Unbooked timed entries (the Louvre caps around 30,000 a day, the Eiffel releases ~60 days out), zigzag geography, 90-minute lunch queues in monument shadows, and museum-closure Mondays and Tuesdays nobody checked. Four days has zero slack; every mistake costs a visible chunk of trip.

Related questions
Is 4 days enough for Paris and Versailles?
Only if you accept a compressed Paris. Versailles honestly costs a full day door to door. With exactly 4 days, most first-timers get more joy from Paris itself; add Versailles at 5-6 days.
How far ahead should a 4-day Paris trip be planned?
A month minimum: Eiffel tickets release ~60 days out, top tables 2-4 weeks, Louvre slots sell out summer days ahead. The shorter the trip, the earlier the booking, four days has no room to absorb a sold-out sign.
